Ian always enjoys a good book. His exposure to literature can be traced back to the early years of his life when he was frequently read to. He keeps his mother close to his heart due to the memories they forged with the element of literature. He remembers funny stories like Oh the Places You'll Go, The Very Hungery Catapillar, and even poems from Shell Shilverstein's famous A Light in the Attic. These stories or poems can be seen as simplistic but the lessons and morals Ian learned pushed him to dive into literature further. Humans are destined for intelligent and through literature, they can embark on that quest for knowledge. There is nothing more fulfilling than finishing a book, digesting it's theme, and how it applies to everyday life. In Ian's experience, reading Chris Kyle's American Sniper opened his eyes of the reality of war. He now makes an effort to kindly thank any veterans who he crosses paths with. To find success in reading, people should submerse themselves in a type of literature they like. Ian believes that being an avid reader can improve your vocabulary and comprehension skills, decision making, and creativity. Reading war books or dramas is something that Ian is passionate about. He finds for enjoyment for reading when he reads those types of books. Reading is an excellent tool to sharpen a point of view on a topic. One thing Ian struggles with while reading, is when he reads about a topic or issue that he does not have a developed opinion on. This can cause a lack of understanding. However, Ian continues to push and eventually overcome that struggle. He ultimately becomes a much more well rounded person when he develops those newfound opinions and understanding through literature.
Growing up as an anti-math student, Ian found his strengths through the language arts. He always cherished any creative writing assignments he was given because he became the architect of any universe he wanted to create. Any sort of writing piece that has been written has had no limit to creativity. This is one of the many beauties of writing. Ian believes that some people get bogged down by a challenging 3,000 word essay everyone dreads. However, if one answers the 6 basic questions: who, what, where, when, why, and how, the uphill battle of writing becomes a much more flatter surface. In other words, strenuous writing tasks become much more bearable. This is one of the many strategies Ian uses when writing. Another strategy Ian uses is finding inspiration. This can become a difficult task but the results are worth more than gold. To seek out inspiration, Ian reads or learns about different perspectives to structure his argument. A difficulty Ian faces with writing is consistency. He feels that he only writes when he is required to do so. He would like to develop good habits by writing in a journal, every night, to organize his thoughts. Ian believes he can become better at writing through practice. Overall, writing is a great way to demonstrate our creativeness as a person. There is a limitless sandbox available with a pen and a paper. |
