This week we worked on our "What is Literature" Project and finished up our creative writing piece. My partner and I picked theme and point of view. For our stories we picked Hunters In the Snow, Young Goodman Brown, and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings. Eric and I haven't gotten to our stories for point of view quite yet but we have deeply analyzed Hunters in the Snow. We stated a solid claim regarding the theme of the story. Our claim is along the lines of how selfish people, end up putting their needs above others for their personal gain. We can connect this idea to How To Read English Like A Professor, when Foster talks about the role of vampires in literature. In Hunters in the Snow, the three main characters metaphorically blood suck each other through belittling, bullying and neglecting. Kenny, one of the main characters, ends up dying due to the selfishness of Tub and Frank. This is a prime example of selfish humans.
My creative writing piece is moving along soundly. I am currently still finishing up some final thoughts and polishing some literary devices in my piece. For this piece, I tried something different. I thought it would be interesting to write my piece in a letter format point of view. The conversation takes place through letters and emails between a former couple. The point of view of my creative writing piece is a little complicated. It's like third person but omniscient in a sense. A story written in a letter format fashion just simply does not fit neatly into any point of view.
