This week we focused on our presentations on literary elements. it's interesting that we have known about literary elements all our lives but I feel like we are approaching these ideas with a different mindset. Just from talking to some of my classmates, students are generally upset with the education system in America. Throughout high school, I have been presented with information and it was clear cut. My teachers have encouraged me to ask questions but how could I if the curriculum is in a shoe box? In AP literature, we are exploring literary elements rather than learning about them. We are focusing on the how and why rather than the what and who. What's the point of information if there's no application? Exercising this way of thinking in AP Lit. not only prepares me for college, but it also allows me to grow as an intellectual thinker.
Learning about how to present has affirmed my beliefs on how to construct a professional presentation. Whenever I had presentations, book talks, or projects, I always watched my classmates copy and paste a great big paragraph of information and read it word for word, neglecting their audience. This bored me and I made a promise to my audience to never put them through that. I exposed myself to Ted Talks and other professional presentations and I became a far more engaged speaker. I feel that some students have stage fright, which scares any potential away. A strategy I use to conquer stage fright is making myself an expert on the topic at hand. This strengthens my confidence because I know what I am talking about. I cannot wait to become an expert of literary elements and serve as a wonderful tour guide for my class.
