This week we started working on our Pecha Kucha presentations. This is the first time I have done a type of presentation like this. Last night I said to myself "Ian quit procrastinating and get your work done" so I wrote my one page paper and designed my 10 slide powerpoint. I installed the timing mechanism and gave the presentation a whirl. My first thought is that I need to either talk much more quicker, or cut back on my information. I didn't realize how fast twenty seconds was until I had to talk for three minutes and twenty seconds. Furthermore, if I speak faster I may be more susceptible to running out of breath.
Regarding my theme, I learned more about the destructiveness of war and why us humans do it. I added some psychology in my paper to support my point. Apparently, deep inside of our brains we have a piece called "The Reptilian Brain". This part of the brain regulates the bare necessities to sustain life like breathing, sexual desires and our basic fight or flight instincts. We inherited three harmful components of the reptilian brain which are: Tribalism, short-term thinking, and wishful thinking. What impacts humanity's decisions the most regarding war is tribalism. All roots of conflict in history has been caused by tribalism. One group declared that they are better than one another which results in the competition among humans which could spiral into conflict then war.
